ELENA SHVAB, London, UK

Elena Shvab has received an Honorary Award at International Hat Design Competition, China. Her work to date has appeared in numerous publications such as Tatler, The Guardian, the Hat magazine, Tantalum, A2Z, and Ellements to name a few.

She creates two seasonal collections a year. Alongside these main collections, she offers bespoke commissioning services for private clients around the world. Some of these works can be spotted at major events like the Royal Ascot and the Melbourne Cup Carnival. She also provides millinery workshops and classes in her London studio. 
Elena Shvab is a London-based milliner and textile designer. Taking inspiration from nature, history, contemporary art and modern culture she continually works with bold shapes and experimental textile techniques to create dramatic silhouettes that she handcrafts in her studio.
After graduating with a BA Textile Design at the University of Arts London, she pursued the internationally renowned HNC in Millinery at Kensington and Chelsea College. With apprenticeships at acclaimed milliners such as Edwina Ibbotson and Piers Atkinson, she honed her skills further, and eventually set her own label in 2016. 

Workshops include:
Create a Fascinator Hat” is perfect for beginners wishing to learn basic millinery skills. During this workshop, students will learn how to make the base of the hat using traditional hat block, how to wire and trim the edges. As well as different techniques of decorating including sinamay straw rolling, veiling, embellishment and much more. This workshop can be booked on different dates upon request. Metallic Foil in Millinery”. This workshop brings a new creative approach in hat decoration. Students will learn new techniques of how to manipulate decorative metallic foil in order to create standout couture hat decors and trimmings that can be mounted onto fedoras, trilbies, headband, combs, etc. Students will also experiment with numerous
techniques such as foil pattern making, creating artistic “drawing effect” foil-covered band, feathers, veils, etc. This workshop can be booked upon

“Straw Hats.” On this two-day course, you will learn how to block, shape and manipulate sinamay straw. You can choose to block a brim hat such as Fedora or Trilby or you can choose to block a smaller hat such as a pillbox, beret or fascinator. You will also learn how to wire a hat to ensure it holds its shape, how to curve a Petersham ribbon and invisibly stitch it into your hat.  After blocking a hat you will proceed on learning trimming and decorating.
