A Stem of Sweet Peas

Discover the art of millinery silk flower making and experiment with a range of traditional French and Japanese somebana heated tools. You will gain skills that you can use after the course has ended to explore the craft further and make unique flowers.

Throughout the day all the different stages will be demonstrated and at the end of the day you will have an understanding of how to paint with dyes and construct a stem of sweet peas.

Techniques and skills covered:
• silk stiffening technique
• cutting petals from templates
• mixing dyes and silk painting techniques
• shaping petals with heated tools
• construction through observation
• leaf making and binding of stems

The tutor will help you through the different processes with individual attention. At the end of the course, you will be given information of suppliers of silk, tools and materials used. Dyes, tools, silk and wires will all be available to buy from the tutor.

The course is suitable for all levels and all you need is a good basic knowledge of sewing and some patience.
