All About Nybuck
May 10 - May 12
Nybuck is a wonderful material perfect for creating translucent, lightweight hats, in addition to being water-proof. Few milliners have explored its potential applications beyond its use as a substitute for buckram. In this three-day class, instructor Laura Whitlock will guide students through techniques that will unlock the fabulous possibilities of Nybuck.
- Day 1: Using instructor-provided patterns we will combine Nybuck with sheer textiles and/or lace create a spectacular, translucent hat or fascinator.
- Day 2: Students will learn methods for painting and cutting Nybuck to create a one-of-a-kind floral or freeform organic fascinator or platter hat.
- Day 3: We’ll focus on trimming techniques and creating a professional interior finish for both pieces.
This class is designed for students with some sewing skills. Ms. Whitlock will aid in guiding students to choose a project commensurate with their skill level.
