Beginner’s Millinery Course 1
5 full-day sessions over 5 months
£750 (including materials)
Sundays 10am-4.30pm at the studio, with a 30 minute break for lunch.
COURSE:
The course covers the following:
Making pillboxes,
Making headpieces and fascinators,
Learning techniques with sinamay and crin,
Learning basic techniques with feathers to make trimmings and headpieces,
Making prongs and hairbands.
Hat finishing techniques – wiring, attaching trimmings, making and fitting headfitting ribbons, attaching elastics and combs.
At the end of the course you should have gained the knowledge detailled above, and have 2 finished pillbox hats and a fascinator/headpiece.
Choose from a wide selection of colours of materials and different types of feathers, to design and create your own unique headwear. You will learn how to manipulate the materials to create different designs.
No millinery experience required, but you will need some basic hand sewing skills (how to start and finish hand sewing, running stitch, and back stitch).
The workshop is held in The Edinburgh Hat Studio in Gayfield Square, in the city centre.
