Felt Fedora

May 15, 2020 - May 16, 2020

In this 7.5 hour class, you will learn how to make a classic fedora, working with a dress weight fur felt and using millinery blocking techniques. Students will use a steamer and iron to shape the fur felt hat body over a domed crown block then press a flat brim. The technique allows you to hand sculpt a variety of crown shapes including traditional fedora creases and bashes, or you can be more creative and free form with your design. The dress weight felt makes a gorgeous flat brim, no wire needed.

The class fee of $250 includes most supplies. Students will need to bring outer trims (ribbon, feathers, etc.)

Previous hand sewing skills strongly recommended.

PLEASE NOTE: On Saturday, May 16th we will meet from 6-8 pm to block the felt. It will dry overnight and then we will work on Sunday, May 17th from 10-4 pm to finish them.

Upon registration, you will receive an email with color choices for the felt. Please note, there are fewer color choices available in the dress weight than in the regular millinery weight. And they are smaller than millinery capelines. Maximum brim width is 3″.
