Fish Skin Workshop

February 15 - February 16

Tutor: Jane Fryers

This course is suitable for people with basic millinery experience to extend their skills to explore working with fish skin. Over the two day course students will be able to make a fish leather button beret (or something of similar size) trimmed with fish leather flowers. This will teach two different methods of working with fish leather as well as other techniques used in couture millinery.

You will provide a starter pack costing £45 per student, payable directly in cash on the day. The pack consist of:

Salmon skin
Tilapia skin
Buckram
½” Petersham
Lining fabric
Hat elastic
Silver marking pen
Leather needle
Flower template

College will provide:

Button block (college has 8 button or small beret blocks)
Water based stiffener
Plastic bowls for water (small washing up bowl size)
Steamer (college has 3)
Iron
Ironing board
Dolly heads (we have polystyrene ones the students work on)
Paper towels

Students need to bring:
Sharp Scissors to cut leather
Scissors to cut buckram
Apron
Millinery needles and thread
Blocking pins
Glass headed pins
Tape Measure
Plastic tub for mixed stiffener (approx. 6cm x 10cm)
