Hand-Dyed Sinamay Fascinator Class

October 15, 2018 - October 16, 2018

The weekend class sold out so we added a second session! Meeting Monday, October 15th & Tuesday, October 16th 10 am – 4 pm. TWO SPOTS OPEN!

In this two-day, 10 hour workshop, students will dye, block and design with sinamay straw, creating a  fabulous fascinator with hand-dyed materials and unique trims. First, we will cover the basics of color and fiber-reactive dye, then experiment with dyeing sinamay yardage. Students can play with ombre or resist techniques.* After our dyeing time, students will shape fascinator bases using wooden hat blocks.

On Sunday, students will wire and finish the fascinator bases. I will demonstrate how to make a variety of trims using the extra sinamay. You will have time to play with the techniques then choose the best one(s) for trimming your fascinator base.

We will take a one hour lunch break each day.

The class fee of $375 includes all supplies.

*We will be dyeing sinamay in class but the dye baths can be used multiple times. Feel free to bring any extra millinery materials you would like to experiment with. Plant-based fibers would work best so parasisal, sisal, abaca, pinok pok, etc. It can be yardage or hat bodies. You’ll have time to dye multiple pieces, but blocking and finishing would need to happen in your own studio time.

Max. 4 students per class.

Previous hand sewing skills recommended.

NOTE: Please wear old work clothes on the first day – things you don’t mind getting stained! And If you have any chemical sensitivities or a latex allergy (gloves), let me know.
