The Art of Sinamay
April 5 - April 7
It’s light! It’s colorful! It can be blocked into the grandest of racing hats or draped into the most delicate of fascinators. What’s not to love about this diverse millinery marvel? In this class we will learn how to block sinamay hats in two pieces to create the perfect classic Derby hat. We will also use the free-form method of “sculpting” sinamay to fashion a wonderful, contemporary piece.
And in the midst of all the hatmaking, learn how to drape flowers and leaves of all sizes, and create crisp bows and delightful curls and dip dye your scraps to fashion these fine trims.
Students will be encouraged to create 2-3 hats using any combination of techniques.
