What you will learn

On this weekend course you will learn how to to block, shape, stitch and manipulate felt. You will make and trim a felt hat with a brim or a blocked felt perching cocktail hat perfect for weddings and parties or the races . We will look at the differences between various ‘hood’ shapes and types of millinery felt. The Tutor will explain and demonstrate how to block a felt crown and a brim, and how to wire a felt hat. We will identify the right stitches to use to fasten trimmings onto your hat and attach brim and crown together. You will then put this into practice to make your own unique creation .This course is suitable for beginners and intermediates.

By the end of the course you will be able to

• To develop designs for hats in felt
• To block felt
• To use appropriate methods to construct hats
• To develop and use trims using appropriate methods and materials
