Windowpane Sinamay Hat Class
August 10 - August 11
In this 15-hour 2-day workshop, students will learn how to block windowpane sinamay (also known as lattice, fishnet or mesh sinamay) on the bias to create a dramatic brim. Windowpane can be difficult to work with, but I’ll demonstrate tricks for blocking and wiring this novelty material so that you can achieve beautiful results.
Students will work with plain sinamay to block a crown, with the option of a windowpane overlay. We will then finish the hats by securing the brim wire, sewing in a grosgrain sweatband, and joining crown and brim. Students should have time to add trims to complete their hats.
Class fee of $375 includes 15 hrs of tuition, plain and windowpane sinamay, millinery wire, and a selection of trims. Students will need to bring a small sewing kit and any additional desired trims.
Previous millinery experience is required, especially familiarity with blocking sinamay. This class builds on techniques covered in the Bias Sinamay Workshop, though that class is not a prerequisite.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a Friday-Saturday course. We will meet from 10-6 each day with a 30 min lunch break.
Upon registration, you will receive an email with color choices for the sinamay.
