Parasisal Straw from Block to Finish

In this two-day workshop, students will make a brimmed hat of parasisal straw, a popular handwoven straw of agave fibers with a lovely sheen and a 2x2 weave. You will choose a crown and brim from my wooden hat block collection, then use steam to shape the straw over the forms. Once dry, students will sew in a sweatband, then wire and finish the brim edge. Finally, we will discuss trims and how to make design decisions for impact and balance as well…
