A quintessential English Silk Rose

Disover the art of millinery silk flower making and experiment with a range of traditional French and Japanese somebana heated tools. You will gain skills that you can use after the course has ended, to explore the craft further and find your own personal way of creating flowers to make a silk rose.

The course is suitable for all levels, and all that is required is a good basic knowledge of sewing and some patience.

Throughout the day all the different stages will be demonstrated, and at the end of the day you will have an understanding of some of the skills in painting with dyes and constructing a beautiful silk rose.

Techniques and skills covered:

Silk stiffening technique

• cutting petals from templates

• mixing dyes and silk painting techniques

• shaping petals with heated tools.

• Construction through observation of real roses

• leaf making and binding of stems

The tutor will help you through the different processes with plenty of individual attention. At the end of the course, we will review all the techniques involved, and you will be given information of suppliers of silk, tools and materials used. Dyes, tools, silk and wires will all be available to buy from the tutor.
