course runs 1 day a month for 5 months, inclusive.

COURSE:

This course follows on from Course 3, if you haven’t done Courses 1 and 2 and 3 – WE ARE HAPPY FOR YOU TO JOIN COURSE 4 if you have the skills detailled below in ‘Millinery experience required’.

This course covers the following:

Blocking and covering a percher hat in leather and/or lace – this can be made as a leather covered or lace covered hat, or as a leather covered hat with a lace overlay.

Choosing and working with leather and lace.

Learning the endangered art of silk flower-making, you will make different types of silk flowers using heated flower tools – from making your own petal templates, to dyeing, and making the flowers complete with leaves, and then trimming your hat with them.

Choose from a wide selection of colours of leather, lace and silks, to design and create your own unique headwear. You will learn how to manipulate the materials to create different designs.

Millinery experience required (you should have experience of hand-blocking and making felt hats from start to finish including inserting headfitting ribbons, and trimming techniques) – if you are unsure please do contact us and we can advise.

You will also need some good hand sewing skills (how to start and finish hand sewing, running stitch, and back stitch, and tie-tacking).
