The course will involve:

• Learning the techniques involved in painting, manipulating and constructing an organdie poppy and leaves.
• How to form the centre buds and stamens for the poppy

Level – Any

You will need:

• Paper pattern (emailed prior to the course)
• 1/2 meter of white cotton organdie
• 22-gauge white paper covered floristry/ sugar flower wire
• Acid dyes (Black, Green and one other colour of your choice for the flower petals)
• Artist paint brushes. A selection. (1 medium brush for wetting petals and 3-4 small pointed brushes for applying each dye colour)
• Glass jars with lids for mixing and storing wet dyes in
• Extra glass jars or pots for clean water and rinsing brushes
• Latex gloves/Washing up gloves
• Old newspapers/newsprint to paint on. (Or alternatively some absorbent paper that will soak up dye. Cartridge paper does not work very well)
• Roll of green paper florists stem tape
• A skein of black or brown embroidery thread
• Cotton wool
• Double sided tape. No wider than 2cm
• Pegs
• Fabric glue (SOBO is good)

Extra sundries

• Scissors
• Dressmakers’ pins
• Hairspray (optional)
• Iron
• Hairdryer

You will leave with:

• A finished painted poppy and leaf trim
