Sarah Lomax and Rachel Skinner met whilst serving their apprenticeships with Frederick Fox the Queens milliner learning their trade working to the highest and most exacting standards. They have worked for many leading milliners and theatrical costumiers including Rachel’s own label – Rachel Skinner Millinery – which she ran from her shop in Primrose Hill.

In 2013 they established Lomax and Skinner designing and creating couture millinery for weddings, race meetings, parties and society events, as well as undertaking commissions for other exclusive occasions. In 2017 their comprehensive guide, Millinery: The Art of Hat-making, was published by Guild of Master Craftsman Publications Ltd.

With over 50 years of millinery experience between them they specialise in one-to-one and small group courses in the creative and informal surroundings of their East Sussex studio.

Small group programmed courses run throughout the year. They also offer a unique one-to-one service tailoring individual courses to the student’s requirements and level of experience. With previous courses being as far ranging as designing and creating blocked and hand sculpted hats to silk flower making you can have as many, or as few, hours with them as required arranging dates and times to suit.

They also cater for private groups. With 3 or more people wishing to attend they will tailor any course to meet the groups requirements. Perfect for hen parties, birthday treats or just a special day out with friends. Cost on application.
