About Me
I qualified as an Art and Design Teacher, with a double degree in Textiles, Ceramic and Sculpture. I have taught all forms of art including tertiary fashion, for over 35 years. I have been an award winning fulltime milliner for over 12 years with a unique hat shop, in Melbourne CBD. During this time I have trained several interns who are now successful milliners themselves.
I can now offer private and small group lessons in my new well-equipped purpose-designed studio, which caters for classes and small ready to wear. Of course I still create custom designs for clients to order. I can teach many forms of millinery, so a student can learn about their interests, including feather work, thermal fabrics, silk flowers, colour hand painting, etc. I also teach people how to create their own custom hat block shapes from cardboard / Fosshape, etc. and can teach remodelling and shaping vintage hats. The maximum in a group is 3, to allow for individual attention.
I have a passion for using vintage fabrics, especially Japanese silks, and in repurposing vintage flowers. I collect vintage flowers and fabrics. I have a passion for fashion history and design. I love to also learn new techniques so am always expanding my knowledge and skills of design and millinery.
With many years as a specialist design teacher I can offer classes that are focused on the students needs and skills, and which are well taught in a relaxed environment.
My work has been exhibited in Australia, UK, France and the USA. My aim is always ‘one only’ so I teach unique skills in design that allow a student to achieve their millinery design aim.
